Online communities, specifically forums, are struggling to keep up with the modern user experience that large social media platforms provide. Some communities have even migrated to Facebook Groups and Reddit.

But major social platforms have key drawbacks: users struggle to form meaningful connections in broad environments, feel monetized by advertising and data practices, cannot customize their platforms, and deal with ephemeral content designed to be constantly refreshed rather than preserved for long-term reference.
