Overview
I co-founded Umoja.gg as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a clear mission: use sports to create opportunities and build community for young people. The name "Umoja" draws from the Swahili word for unity, and that principle runs through everything we do.
On the traditional sports side, we run soccer camps and tournaments designed to be accessible regardless of a family's financial situation. Our events regularly bring together 50-100 kids each. We've donated shoes, cleats, balls, and equipment to young athletes in need — ensuring cost is never a barrier to participation.
Recognizing that not every young person connects with traditional athletics, we also run competitive esports programs centered around Rocket League. These programs provide structure, mentorship, and a sense of belonging for youth who are passionate about gaming, applying the same values of teamwork and discipline found on the soccer field.
Rockford FC Academy operates as a subsidiary of Umoja, extending our mission into structured year-round youth soccer development with programs across five age groups and a competitive U23 adult team.
